Description
Göreme is a unique landscape that has been recognized as one of the world's cultural heritage sites by UNESCO. The region is surrounded by rocks sculpted by erosion. People from across the globe come here to witness the scenic beauty that man, and nature has co-created. You can see dwellings, troglodyte villages, and underground towns dating back centuries. The rock-hewn sanctuaries provide unique evidence of Byzantine art in the post-Iconoclastic period. The Göreme National Park and the Rock Sites of Cappadocia will take you on a tour to revisit the history. Other than the cave houses and rock formations it showcases churches and monasteries from the 10th and 11th centuries.
The place has been constantly evolving to date. The earthquake damage to some of the cones and the pillars see here is the evidence of it. Throughout the valley, you can see fairy chimneys, inspect old cave houses, and explore the churches and their cave paintings.

January 30, 2023 at 8:29 PMVisit the monastery to see the inside frescoes! I like to go back to Goreme often! The Goreme caverns, which later on evolved into an Orthodox seminary, were frequented by numerous Christian Saints from the beginning of time. Nature carved up thousands of homes and more than 2000 ancient churches inside the Fairy Chimneys’ volcanic tufa rock formation. must be observed!

January 30, 2023 at 8:31 PMEnjoy yourself slowly. I advise traveling in the cooler months to Goreme. The hike is wonderful. Either arrive very early or stay late. You can find yourself wasting a few hours without even realising it.

January 30, 2023 at 9:16 PMIf you stand on top of sides all around the goreme basin, you can see the valleys very well. Great for those who enjoy the outdoors, see the caverns where early inhabitants excavated living quarters and pigeon holes to collect pigeon droppings for fertiliser. Go to the Goreme Open Air Museum to witness the ruins of the earliest Christian towns. Experience with hot air balloons and underneath ancient cities.
