Description
Pasabag or the Monks Valley is famous for its remarkable earthy pillars. This place is an architectural wonder with an ancient city carved in stone pillars. Pasabag means Pacha’s vineyard in English. It is situated in the middle of a vineyard just a few kilometers outside of the village of Goreme. Out of all Cappadocia regions, this place also has some striking stone formations. The whole Pasabag is around an hour of activity. Once you enter the land you get lost in exploring cave rooms one after one to witness the hidden agenda of each. You can also include the day's visit to the Zelve Open Air Museum, Devrent Valley, and Avanos, to extend your wholesome episode of sightseeing in Cappadocia!
Things to see in Pasabag:
- Fairy chimneys are an incredible factor to explore in Pasabag. There are mushroom-shaped stone pillars that stand beyond 13m in height. Many of these chimneys have twin or even triple stone caps on them.
- Hiking through the infinite number of cave rooms built out of the rock pillars to stir curiosity about the lives of past centuries.
- The sideways of the valleys await you with Camels adorned in traditional blankets and cozy cushions on top. You can snap pictures and go for small rides on them.

February 2, 2023 at 9:28 PMThis area looked really busy when we first arrived but once we got through the shopping area out into the valley people were much more spread out. Really cool rock formations it was great to just walk around and take it all in. Steep uphill walk to a great viewpoint of the area.

February 2, 2023 at 9:29 PMVery worth the climb. We spent an hour here exploring. Great to pick up some cold water from the shops when leaving and toilets were 3 lira. Please keep your ticket for here as it also gets you entry into Zelve which is 100% worth a visit.

February 2, 2023 at 9:48 PMMy family and I went to Pasabag Fairy Chimneys. Water spontaneously carved the fairy chimneys. As opposed to the rest of Cappadocia, the locals reportedly showed such reverence for the rock formations that they left no settlements behind. The term “Fairy Chimneys” came from the locals’ belief that the formation was created by fairies because it had such a wonderful appearance. The head, neck, and body of the chimneys are other distinguishing features. It’s a great location to take Instagram-worthy photos. An important location in Cappadocia.

February 2, 2023 at 11:08 PMIt wasn’t possible to film or take photos very much. Otherwise, very beautiful rock formations and rock-hewn churches. Only one was accessible, the others were locked. We didn’t have time for a trip outside the paid section (it was late in the afternoon). Before entering the area, there is a stand with cat biscuits and several beautiful cats. We bought them food (a lot of people bought them cookies). Such a cute distraction. I recommend it to people who still have time to go through the unpaid valley. But for people, who come barely for three days probably useless.

February 2, 2023 at 11:30 PMSome of the most amazing rock shapes in the area, it is a museum and you go and see nature, there is a small shopping market before the entrance. It was very interesting to hike through the valley.

February 2, 2023 at 11:38 PMThe rock formations are less impressive compared to the other valleys, and there are no interesting rock churches to speak of in the area. Additionally, the whole atmosphere of the valley is spoiled by paved roads that run through it. The place has a huge parking, where buses of people are dropped off, who are then guided through a bunch of souvenir shops before reaching the entrance of the actual park.

February 2, 2023 at 11:41 PMAlthough scattered all around Cappadocia, Pasabag is the place to see most of the iconic fairy chimneys rock formations.
If you’re staying for more days you’re sure to visit this place several times. It is the common take-off/landing place for balloon flights, as well as included on most ATV quad tours. Also, do come yourself with your car to admire this fascinating landscape.
