Description
Pigeon Valley is located between Goreme and Uchisar. The valley got its name from the infinite number of man-made pigeon houses and dovecotes carved in the ashy rocks and cliffs of Guvercinlik Vadisi. To reach here, you must take a 400-meter hike down the valley. In ancient times pigeons were an inevitable part of the Cappadocia’s livelihood. They were used as message carriers in medieval times, their droppings are used as fertilizers in vineyards, and were also used for making explosives. Unlike the other Cappadocia valleys, this place has no notable churches to discuss. You can choose an extensive Hot Air Balloon over the incredible valley to gain the best view. These pigeon houses are centuries old and still shelter a huge number of pigeons in Cappadocia. The hike to the pigeon valley will be possibly the best out of your whole Cappadocian expedition. The early morning will be best for the hike as you will reach the destination by daylight and get a long time to tour the place.
Things to do in pigeon valley:

November 17, 2022 at 5:45 PMBeautiful Valley. Visited the Green Tour, and it’s a great Panorama Viewpoint. There are loads of pigeons, and you get to see the amazing Turkey Eye tree. Worth a visit. It’s busy but not that busy as people are nicely spaced out to enjoy different angles of the area.

January 20, 2023 at 10:53 AMPerfect observation point. Gorgeous view over the Uchisar castle. The food for the pigeons is sold there, you can buy and feed the birds. It is possible, the place could be overcrowded when visiting and you should wait a few minutes to find the best place and take photos.
